The Memon Community Centre was established in 1980 as the UK Memon Welfare Centre. Early work consisted mainly of translation, interpretation, funerals, social gatherings and marriage counseling. However, due to the changing needs of the community, the Centre has evolved to its present form with 2 workers.

We empower the South Asian communities and local residents to confront some of the problems they may experience including unemployment, poor housing in inner city areas, racial abuse and cultural alienation. In particular we work with women and children in areas such as domestic violence and drug abuse. Some of the services provided at the centre include Drug preventative activities, Health promotion, Cancer Awareness, CHD, Elderly daycare, Positive Activities for Young people and Lifelong learning Activities.

We provide cultural consultation and linguistic interpretation to professionals from statutory and non-statutory agencies through presentations and seminars. Our work further extends to include representing the local Residents and Voluntary organizations on the Leicester Strategic Partnership.
